Fashion Revue Information

The Fashion Revue is an event for those enrolled in 4-H to highlight their efforts and to develop self-confidence and poise.  Members have the opportunity to model the garments they have made or purchased and to present themselves at their best in personal grooming, posture, modeling, and accessorizing their garment. The day is one of learning, as well as competing. Instruction will be given, especially to the Beginners, on how to model.  All entrants will receive written, constructive comments on their outfits. Members must be enrolled in the clothing or fashion revue projects.  Garments must not have been shown in a previous Fashion Revue and must have been completed in this 4-H project year. 

Categories of Competition: There are six major categories of competition to enter.  Contestants must select or construct and model their own garments.  Members may enter in any one or more of the following:

• Traditional- The 4-H member must have sewn the garment. Accessories may be made or purchased. They will need to provide a copy of the pattern cover as well as fabric swatches of the garment made.
• Purchased- The 4-H member must select, purchase and coordinate an outfit on a budget, not exceeding $150.00.  This includes all outwear and accessories.  All sales receipts (or photocopies) must be tallied and submitted with application. Undergarments are not included.
• Recycled- In this category, the 4-H member designs and sews a wearable garment from previously used materials.  The original garment is not yardage like a bedspread or sheet or curtains, but an actual garment.  The new garment must show at least 50% change in construction.  Before and after photographs are required as well as swatches of the fabric used.
• Wearable art- The 4-H member embellishes a purchased garment with paints, sequins/beads, appliqué embroidery etc.  A photo of the garment before and after is required.
• Needle Arts- The 4-H member demonstrates their ability to knit, crochet or weave a garment and coordinate an outfit around the garment
• Backpack Challenge - Design and sew a backpack using Butterick pattern 5054, views C or E only. Purchase or sew an outfit to coordinate with your backpack.

Levels of Competition: There are three levels of competition (Jr., Int., & Sr.) and primaries that are coached and not judged.

 Commentary:
To encourage self-confidence and poise contestants should be prepared with a written commentary for the judges about their outfits in a short 30 second to one-minute explanation. (Length of explanation should be age appropriate, approximately 75 words). This is required at Sectional Fashion Revue.  This commentary will be read by the master of ceremonies while the member models.  A copy will also be provided to the judges with your entry form.
