Meeting:

Goals: Members in this project will learn about how to select a mountain bike.  And how to care and maintain it.  And what good is a mountain bike without actually using it - we'll learn riding safety and etiquette  And, of course, to have fun!
What to expect: You should have a mountain bike and helmet to be a member of this project.  To go on the fun outings, you will either need your own bike, or borrow someone's.  Meetings will be a combination of classroom style and outings.  In the classroom we'll learn about the care and maintenance of our bikes.  And the East Orange provides plenty of trail riding opportunities.
Time Required: Meetings are one day each month, plus an outing each month
Effort Required: You will show off your mountain bike knowledge with a poster or display at Youth Expo and the Orange County Fair
YOUTH EXPO (a "learning fair" of 2-3 days)
Create a poster or display on some aspect of mountain biking
    ORANGE COUNTY FAIR
Choose the same poster or display or create a new one to display at the fair
Estimated Costs: Like most things, mountain bikes range in price from very low to as much as you want to spend.  You can get a good used bike at a garage sale very inexpensively - $25 - $50.  Or you can buy  new ones starting around $250 and going up into the thousands (for the very serious professional).  You'll also need a good CPSC rated helmet - you can purchase one for as little as $25 or like everything else, you can spend more.  Check with your leaders - they may be able to get you a discount at the local bike shop.
